There was little doubt among attendees of Ragan's 2009 Speechwriters Conference that an award honoring acclaimed speechwriter Theodore C. Sorensen was overdue.
The former John F. Kennedy speechwriter drew two standing ovations with an inspirational keynote address Feb. 13 to the nearly sold-out crowd.
Following the keynote address, Laure Vincent, writing for MasterCard Worldwide, won the first Annual Theodore C. Sorensen Speechwriting Award for best organizational speech of the year.
First runner-up went to Chris Baker of Public Broadcasting Service, and Fletcher Dean of Dow Chemical Company was second runner-up.
