Matt spent almost four years sitting through a lot of meetings and reading a lot of budget documents as a government reporter at the Chattanooga Times Free Press in Chattanooga, Tenn. Prior to that, he wrote social-service and courts stories for Capital News Service, the wire service run by the University of Maryland Philip Merrill College of Journalism, where he just happened to get his master's degree in journalism. He was an intern at American Journalism Review in Maryland and The Winston-Salem Journal in his home state of North Carolina. For the past year, he's been a contributor to the @FakeAPStylebook
Twitter feed (he writes all the funny ones) and he got a piece published on McSweeneys.net once, but assumes that was probably a fluke.
