A recent poll on the
Intranet Professionals LinkedIn group asked, "On what technology is your intranet
based?" The poll received 379 responses. The results are below:

Of the 379 respondents, 195 indicated they use a version of SharePoint, while 184 use an alternative. That means around 50 percent of organizations use
SharePoint for their intranets.
Of the people who selected "other," 146 listed the technology they use in the comments section.
What technologies, other than SharePoint, do organizations use to develop their intranets? Below are the most popular based on the poll results.
Here are some notes on how I ranked the technologies:
-
It's not clear whether the people who "liked" the suggestions in the comments use the technologies or simply endorse them. For this reason, I allocated
only half a point for each "like."
-
Some organizations use a combination of technologies. Because of this, I counted each instance of a technology mentioned as one point. For example, if
an organization uses both Vignette and IBM Websphere Portal, I allocated one point to both of these technologies.
