Social media has to be part of the strategy for any organization seeking to attract the next generation of employees. Casie Shimansky of Cisco Systems’ Talent Brand team mastered Instagram, and WeAreCisco, the Instagram account she developed within her first few months on team, built the organization’s nascent account from almost zero to 15,000 followers. Shimansky used hashtags, voice and interaction with fans. Even more important than the number of followers generated is engagement; WeAreCisco excels there too, with rates three to six times industry standards. Considered by her peers an unparalleled Instagrammer, Shimansky produced a series of training videos to ensure team members benefitted from her knowledge in their own posts. Shimansky—also a committed and selfless volunteer for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation for Children’s Cancer Research—clearly grasps not only the fundamentals but how to integrate them into larger communication strategies.
