Workiva’s intranet, CONNECT, fulfills the functions of a typical intranet. Employees can publish blog posts, share photos and customize their profiles. Research found that even though CONNECT had a news feed, employees loved the idea of getting news via video. In response, the communications team developed Workiva Weekly, which has won first place in the “Use of Video” category of Ragan’s 2017 Intranet Awards.

Workiva Weekly is embedded in newsletters and promoted on CONNECT. As Workiva explains, “The newsletters provide additional context for information covered in the video, and link back to the video transcript on CONNECT. The transcript contains all the weekly page links, registration forms, photo galleries or event calendars.”

Hosted by various members of the corporate communications team, Workiva Weekly packs a lot of information into two short minutes. That’s noteworthy because employees spend an average of nearly three minutes with each episode, which means they not only watch but also engage with the content in the transcript.

One representative episode was viewed by one-third of the workforce within a week of its distribution.

We congratulate Eileen Gannon, Wade Hays, Drew Hays, Preston Scott-Hall, Luke Leidal and the entire corporate communications team.
