Infographic: People with strong writing skills get paid more

If that’s not a compelling reason to clean up your commas and finally learn how to spell ‘definitely,’ we don’t know what is.

To those who bravely point out comma splices, inappropriate apostrophes, misspellings and other writing errors to friends, co-workers and other grammar sinners, your day in the sun is finally here.

An infographic from Grammarly reports that people with strong writing skills are better at their jobs and make more money than their less grammar-focused colleagues.

Grammarly reviewed more than 400 freelancers’ profiles on Elance, an online staffing platform, and found that people with strong writing skills tend to earn more money per job. Strong writers in the engineering, manufacturing and finance industries fare particularly well—they make more money than their peers in other industries.

Grammarly also found that (no surprise here) professional writers make fewer writing mistakes than those in other professions. But more interesting, workers in sales and marketing, finance and IT make the most grammatical errors.
