Need engagement? Ask employees to write for your internal publication

Stories written by employees, or from their perspective, boost readership and employee engagement.

Krogman runs stories from the perspective of associates, telling readers how one Allied representative got it right and how that magic can be repeated. An article in the March 2007 issue details “Three reasons our customers are smiling,” including advice from Allied associates Bob, Marylin and Melody. In June, a twentysomething Allied associate wrote an article about Generation Y in the workplace; meanwhile, in the previous month’s issue, an interview with 10-year Allied associate Janice Hardin explains the importance of veteran leadership at the company.

The effect is striking. Readers won’t find high-minded articles from consultants telling employees what to do, nor preaching from upper management (although the C-suite is given a voice in some issues).
