AGENDA
1-1:30 p.m. ET
ESG 101: What communicators need to know

Reporting on your organization’s performance on Environmental, Social and Governance issues is no longer just about assembling complex data tables and filing required documents. Your many audiences — employees, customers, news media and other stakeholders — want to know how your company is looking out for the planet, caring for its employees, and conducting its affairs openly and ethically. And they don’t want to sift through complicated reports to find out. That’s where storytelling comes in. In the opening session, you’ll learn:

  • Why ESG storytelling has become a top priority for company communicators
  • Why ESG is essential to your company — and why your audience(s) care
  • How to turn new SEC regulations to your advantage by using the required disclosures to start telling stories
1:30-2 p.m. ET
The ESG Recipe: How to tell a good ESG story using the RCG 9-point playbook

In this session, your trainers will dive into some examples of ESG storytelling — good, bad and ugly — take them apart and talk about making them better using Ragan Consulting’s nine-point formula. You’ll learn how to:

  • Translate complex ESG data and documentation into compelling human stories
  • Find the right sources and the best examples to tell your ESG stories
  • Organize an ESG story with relatable examples and informative quotes from your experts
  • Create compelling leads and better headlines to attract your readers
2:10-2:30 p.m.
Practical tips for ESG reporting and writing

Senior communicators will share tips and techniques for ESG storytelling and creating readable — and credible — sustainability reports. You’ll discover how to:

  • Approach your ESG reporting
  • Organize your sustainability reports for a broader audience
  • Find the best stories inside your data
  • Foster collaboration among all the departments responsible for ESG information
2:30-3:15 p.m.
Virtual Newsroom: Pitch us your story ideas

What stories do you need to tell? In the final session, your trainers simulate the news meeting they run with their clients to discuss your story ideas and how to report them. They will help you answer these questions:

  • What makes this a “good” ESG story?
  • What does the audience need to know?
  • What’s the best way to report this story? What are the “must-haves” and “nice-to-haves”?
  • What’s the best format to tell this story? Text, video, infographic or combination?
  • How do we make sure we don’t sugarcoat the news?
