AI adoption stalls when internal comms waits
Drive adoption by taking charge early.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s internal GPT, ChatHPE, has close to 15,000 users, about a quarter of the organization’s workforce. It’s also got an 89% satisfaction score. But HPE’s internal comms team is only now starting to promote it.
During Ragan’s Employee Experience Conference in Nashville last month, Fred Tan, global head of social impact and deputy director at Hewlett Packard Enterprise and the HPE Foundation, said that AI transformations can only be called that if people actually use the tolls in question.
“A solution that no one is using is just an idea, probably not a very good one,” he said. “So we need people to adopt it. Are people adopting it, and are people adopting it en masse?”
Getting people to use a tool depends a lot on how it’s rolled out. Tan said the way most companies talk about AI both internally and externally right now relies on pressure.
“We haven’t really figured out the narrative for AI,” he said. “A lot of what I hear is, ‘use AI because everyone’s using it. Use AI because if you don’t, you’ll be left behind. Use AI because we’re tracking how much you use.’”
