Your team's best practices often live in the heads of a few experienced people. The result is inconsistent work and multiple rounds of review, delaying projects and bottlenecking staff.

The good news: A Claude Skill is a reusable set of instructions, source material and standards that Claude can apply whenever your team tackles the same kind of work. It turns hard-won expertise into a shared workflow so more people can start from approved guidance without rebuilding it every time.

In this 60-minute interactive tutorial, Chris Gee, advisor to Ragan's Center for AI Strategy and founder of Chris Gee Consulting, shows you how it’s done. This isn't a prompting tutorial. You'll see him build, test and troubleshoot a core comms Skill live, then use approved source material to create audience-specific communications while keeping review, escalation and final approval in human hands.

You’ll leave with a framework for choosing the right workflow, setting up the Skill with the right sources and rules, finding where it breaks and strengthening it before your team relies on it.

What you’ll learn to do:

  • Pick the Right Use Case: Spot recurring work where Claude Skill can capture your team’s knowledge and put into a scalable workflow.
  • Scale Across Audiences: Turn one approved message into an employee announcement, leadership brief, customer update and media Q&A without losing the facts or intent.
  • Review and Test: Decide what triggers escalation and learn how to test for reliable outputs.

AGENDA

Step 1: Decide Where Skills Fit

Not every recurring task needs a Skill. Chris will first define what a Skill is and how it differs from rebuilding the same prompt every time. Then he’ll show how to evaluate a use case based on four factors: how often the work recurs, how much risk it carries, how frequently the source material changes and whether the same standards must be applied every time. You’ll also learn what to confirm about access, privacy and organizational policies before creating a Skill.

Step 2: Build the Skill’s Foundation

A reliable Skill needs more than a good set of instructions. Chris will show how to assemble the approved sources, examples and decision rules that Claude needs to handle recurring work consistently. We’ll cover:

  • Approved Sources: How to choose current messaging, templates and terminology while leaving out outdated or conflicting material.
  • Audience Rules: How to define what changes by audience, what must stay consistent and which facts or language cannot be altered.
  • Review Triggers: How to specify when Claude should stop, flag uncertainty or route the work to legal, HR, an executive or subject-matter expert.
Step 3: Test, Break and Fix It

Watch Chris turn the foundation into a working comms Skill, then push it through harder examples to expose what fails and why so you can troubleshoot your own Skill later. We’ll cover:

  • Run a Real Brief: See how the Skill handles a comms assignment with approved messaging, audience needs and review requirements.
  • Stress the Weak Spots: Test it with incomplete facts, conflicting direction or a sensitive claim to see whether it invents details, drops approved language or skips a review.
  • Diagnose and Repair: Identify whether the failure comes from instructions, source material or rules, then fix it and rerun the use case.
Step 4: Put the Skill to Work

See Chris use the tested Skill to build a coordinated comms package from one approved core message. He’ll show how to keep the facts, rationale and required language consistent while changing the emphasis, tone and level of detail for employees, execs, customers and media.

Q&A and Next Steps

Bring your questions and potential use cases. We’ll close with guidance for choosing the right first comms workflow to turn into a Skill and identifying the sources, rules and reviewers it’ll need.

BIG WINS YOU’LL LEAVE WITH

  • A clear test for deciding which recurring comms workflows deserve a Skill and which are better handled with a prompt.

Claude Skills for Comms is a 60-minute interactive tutorial that shows communications professionals how to turn repeatable processes, organizational knowledge and comms standards into reusable AI-supported workflows with Claude.

Who should attend Claude Skills for Comms?

The tutorial is designed for corporate comms, internal comms, executive comms, PR, marketing, content and other professionals who already use generative AI and want a more repeatable approach to working with Claude.

What will I learn at Claude Skills for Comms?

You'll learn how to identify a strong use case for a Claude Skill, determine what instructions and source material it needs, see a Skill built around a real comms workflow, and learn how to test and strengthen it before broader use.

What are Claude Skills?

Claude Skills are reusable packages of instructions and supporting resources that give Claude specialized guidance for particular types of work. They can help teams reduce the need to repeatedly explain the same processes, context and standards in individual conversations.

How can comms professionals use Claude Skills?

Comms professionals can use Skills to support recurring work that depends on established messaging, processes or review criteria. Potential applications include executive comms, employee announcements, message development, briefing materials, FAQs, talking points, content adaptation and review.

Is Claude Skills for Comms a technical course?

No. This tutorial is designed for comms professionals. The focus is on choosing the right workflow, organizing the right source material, defining standards and evaluating the work Claude produces.

Do I need coding experience?

No coding experience is required.

Do I need previous experience with Claude?

Some familiarity with Claude or another generative AI platform will help. This session is designed for professionals who understand basic generative AI use and are ready to explore more repeatable workflows.

What workflows can Claude Skills improve?

Skills can be useful for recurring work where a comms team repeatedly relies on the same messaging, source material, templates, standards or review process. That can include executive comms, employee announcements, message maps, briefing documents, FAQs, talking points and audience-specific versions of the same core communication.

How is Claude Skills for Comms different from general AI training?

General AI training often focuses on improving the results of individual prompts. Claude Skills for Comms focuses on making comms knowledge, standards and processes reusable so teams do not have to rebuild the same context every time the work begins.

Will Claude Skills for Comms help me build a Skill?

You'll see a comms Skill built and tested during the live tutorial, and learn the framework behind the process so you can apply it to your own workflows.

What is the difference between a Claude Skill and a prompt?

How can Claude Skills for Comms help my team save time?

Skills can reduce repeated briefing and make established standards easier to apply across recurring work. They can also help teams start with more of the same approved context and quality expectations instead of rebuilding them from scratch.

What will I leave with after Claude Skills for Comms?

You'll leave with a framework for selecting strong Skill use cases, defining the context and standards Claude needs, determining where human review belongs, and testing whether a Skill performs reliably before broader use. You'll also receive a completion certificate.
