Should Twitter double its character limit?
Why 140 characters isn’t enough, and what we could gain by increasing the limit.

Do you think Twitter’s 140-character limit is too short?
In a recent Slate article, Farhad Manjoo argues that it is, and that Twitter should double the limit to 280 characters.
“Why do I want more space?” Manjoo asks. “Forcing people to shrink their updates to 140 characters prevents meaningful interaction between users, short-circuits conversations, and turns otherwise straightforward thoughts into a bewildering jumble of txtese.”
Manjoo also points out that while the limit makes it easy to post an update, it’s very difficult to formulate a short, complete response if someone engages you in conversation.
