Snap is diving deeper into original content.
The company’s Snapchat platform will host “Second Chance,” a new series from A+E Network.
The eight-episode, unscripted series will launch in April inside Snapchat’s “Discover” section.
A press release states that the show will bring together couples who have broken up “to explore the breaking point in their relationship for the first time. In this sincere setting, couples seeking closure will also discover heartfelt opportunities for reconciliation.”
A new episode will be available each week once it premieres, and the series will be first available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.
Interestingly, there’s an agency—not a production company—behind the series. 45 & Dean is producing “Second Chance,” and the company says it has other series already in development.
The show joins a handful of original content pieces already available through Snapchat, including ABC’s “Watch Party: The Bachelor” and NBC’s “The Voice on Snapchat.”
Snap’s vice president of content, Nick Bell, said in a statement:
A+E’s investment in mobile storytelling is exactly what Snapchat Shows are all about: The ability to create premium and wholly original content for a mobile-first audience from some of the best storytellers in the world.
We are excited to break new ground with A+E Networks on our first unscripted series, with a concept that we think is raw and relatable.
Not only does this highlight Snap’s emphasis on original content, but it also shows PR and marketing pros the opportunities available when you embrace and optimize content marketing for mobile devices.
