Hands-on Video and Visual Storytelling Workshop

Go beyond dreaming up a great idea for your next video. Bring it to life.

Agenda

Nothing but style: Lighting, framing and making the most of terrible corporate rooms

Get ready for a film school crash course: lighting, framing, sound, lenses, gear and much more. Justin Allen will provide a unique hands-on experience, projecting a live camera view for all attendees to see, showing how even the slightest lighting and framing changes can affect your shot. He'll also show you how to get the most out of your smartphone when shooting video, from using natural light to framing your subjects and getting better audio.

10:30-10:45 a.m.

BREAK

10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

Create your own production

In this hands-on session, you'll divide into groups and put all the skills you've learned to work— with personal direction. Attendees will head out with their own smartphones, shooting interviews and other footage to put what they've learned into action. Justin Allen will critique and guide your efforts live.

12:15-1:15 p.m.

LUNCH

1:15-3 p.m.

Elements of story design and scripting

This session is all about the story. You'll learn how to efficiently develop content and write scripts for your video across all platforms and formats. The focus here will not only be on how to draft a great video story, but also on how to create new series and formats for each platform. Attendees will work on their own stories, series and creative concepts, with feedback throughout the day.

3-3:15 p.m.

BREAK

3:15-3:45 p.m.

Bringing your story to life

You'll learn how a video production unit should function when it's running properly, the issues every production team faces regardless of size and what metrics should matter most to you early in the life of a video series.

3:45-4:30 p.m.

Posting and beyond: Marketing, distribution and audience acquisition

In our final session of the day, you'll learn how to maintain your brand once it's launched. From creating editorial and production calendars to following a social media posting schedule that won't exhaust your audience, this session is all about keeping your content ideas alive and well.
