Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The PR (Public Relations) & Communications Manager is focused on the implementation of strategic external communications plans, in an assigned geographic portfolio(s), to engage audiences in the Bon Secours Mercy Health brand, and to strategically position the ministry as a thought leader. The primary focus is on external communications, reputation management and public relations activities; building consumer preference through creative storytelling and public relations activities, working in lock step with marketing managers and internal communications to ensure alignment in all areas.
Essential Job Functions
- Work with the director, PR and Communications to establish strategic communications plans for market communications efforts that drive consumer preference, advance thought leadership and executive presence, and maintain/enhance market reputation. Work in collaboration with marketing leads, as well as internal communications, to ensure all efforts are aligned.
- Maintains market editorial calendar to ensure communications efforts are aligned with strategic market and ministry priorities, integrating into market and ministry calendars. Coordinate with social media, internal communications and any paid media efforts.
- Utilizes message platform to advance thought leadership and strategic priorities across market public relations efforts.
- Identifies compelling stories and creatively communicate across a variety of mediums: media pitches, blogs, case studies, social media, internal communications, website, etc.
- Tracks key performance indicators to accurately measure market public relations impact, and reports results as requested. Uses Cision as a tool to measure media coverage and sentiment.
- Works with the PR and Communications Director on market crisis response and reputation management.
- Serves as market spokesperson, responding professionally and promptly to all media queries, coordinating with PR and Communications Director and VP as necessary.
- Acts as client services relationship builder and manager for market leaders, related to communications strategy.
- Works with internal communications to outline market internal communications needs, clearly outlining priorities supported and timelines.
- Identifies partners within each market served to support efforts. Support may include escorting media, etc.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a remote work environment (position is fully remote).
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or Business (required)
- Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or Business (preferred)
Work Experience
- 5+ years of experience in PR, Communications, Business, or related field (required)
- Previous experience in healthcare and/or service industry (preferred)
- Proficient communicator, writer and storyteller.
- Demonstrated ability to work with leaders on strategic communications planning, and to maintain composure in times of stress.
- Must be able to navigate through change in a fast-paced environment.
