You don’t need a lot of money to get PR for your organization. In fact, Kristen Lambert, principal of Watermark Communications, says you can get great coverage on a shoestring.

Here are some tactics to raise awareness and gain publicity.

1. Make a Flash file that goes along with an e-mail pitch. This application should be creative, relevant to your organization’s goals and accompany a compelling e-mail that highlights the Flash file’s message, according to Lambert. “Flash files are cost effective and only take a few hours to create.”

2. Hold a contest. Attract people to your organization and gain publicity by creating a contest around your organization’s goals. Be sure to spell out the rules and include prizes. “Contests are a great way to appeal to donors, the media and potential members,” Lambert says.
