Did an anonymous blogger cause the death of an ad exec? Is Matt Drudge a complete asshole? Did Wal-Mart really say that?
The blogosphere killed a high profile ad exec—or so some think. The victim is Paul Tilley, the creative director of Chicago-based ad agency DDB, who committed suicide Feb. 22.
The Chicago Tribune suggested that maybe Tilley’s death resulted from flak he got from a blogger called “superspy” on the advertising blog Agency Spy (part of mediabistro.com). “superspy” had ripped Tilley in past posts, but after his death the anonymous blogger wrote a brief and kind obituary. Readers bit back at the blogger, some suggesting he or she was responsible for Tilley’s death.
