Do you know what’s hotter than blogging and corporate social responsibility (CSR)? Blogging about CSR—and a few companies are leading the charge. Here’s how they rate on a scale of one to 10 hybrids.

Google, a company with more employee blogs than I care to count (seriously, I stopped counting at 53), launched google.org Blog last year to document its philanthropic efforts. Members of Google.org, the company’s philanthropic arm, author the blog.

Out of 10 hybrids, google.org Blog earns five and a half. I appreciate the effort and the topics are occasionally intriguing; for instance, one author talks about field visits to exotic places like Kenya. However, most of the posts seemed geared for engineers, not an average reader.

Bootmaker Timberland started its CSR-themed blog, Earthkeepers, in April. The blog is stuffed with videos, like tips on being a more eco-savvy consumer. Earthkeepers posts, which are aimed at consumers, are more engaging than the niche google.org.
