The most popular pin on Pinterest

A recent study published by Wired shows why a particular cucumber salad made by the TV chef has all the ingredients for success on the social platform.


Brands have been putting the online scrapbooking social media platform Pinterest to good use for some time now, and we’re starting to understand more about what makes a pin successful. In fact, the perfect pin has been identified:

It’s Aunt Peggy’s Cucumber, Tomato and Onion salad, according to Wired.

Wired published the results of a Curalate study of 500,000 Pinterest images that reveals the recipe, which is featured on PaulaDeen.com, has seen 307,000 repins, 8,000 likes and 300 comments.

Reportedly, it shares several characteristics with other popular images:

– No human faces
– Little background
– Multiple colors
– Lots of red
– Moderate light and color
– Portrait style

Curalate CEO Apu Gupta says his company will eventually get to the point where it can predict how the image will perform based on past results.
