Words you always have to look up

All of us can think of at least one word that, no matter how many times we use it, we feel compelled to double-check so we don’t misspell it. What’s yours?

You’re sitting at your desk writing an article or an email, the words gliding onto the page.

Then, all of a sudden, there it is. That word that, no matter how many times you’ve looked it up, sends you scurrying to the dictionary once again because you can’t be absolutely sure that you have it right.

It’s not all that uncommon a word. In fact, you use it regularly. But that doesn’t matter. It gets you every time. Whether you swap an “a” for an “i” in “definitely,” or an “e” for an “a” in “separate,” you just can’t get it right.

We recently polled Ragan.com employees and Facebook fans to find out which words they invariably have to look up. Here’s what they said. What about you?
