When do you write? Are you a night owl, or an early bird?

MyRaganites tell us when inspiration arises—or when a career’s worth of deadlines return to haunt them.

Morning, noon or night—what’s the best time of day to write?

That’s a question we asked MyRaganites. It turns out that the majority of us are inspired to write when the sun goes down, but there are also a few early risers (helped by a little caffeine).

What about you? We could all agree on one thing: Nothing inspires us like a deadline—no matter what hour it is.

Writing when the sun comes out

Some communicators feel like their creative juices—like fresh, steaming joe—flow better in the morning.

“Early morning, fueled by coffee,” says Sarah Skerik, vice president of social media at PR Newswire. “Ideas creep in anytime I relax and let my mind unspool. I’ve taken to keeping a small notebook handy (even bedside) so I can jot down ideas for blog posts and articles.”

Another MyRaganite likes the idea of going into the office before his co-workers arrive.

“When I was working as a speechwriter, I would get into the office 90 minutes or so before anybody else,” Drew says. “That quiet time was golden. No phone calls, no meetings and no distracting conversations from cube to cube.”
