How communicators can use AI for more resonant messaging

AI’s a great tool to boost your productivity. It can take large inputs and break them down into easy-to-understand language for targeted audiences. For communicators, AI can help develop approaches to reach audiences in new and creative ways.

Catherine Richards, AI strategist and co-founder of Expera Consulting, told the audience at Ragan’s AI Horizons Conference earlier this year that internal communications professionals are well-positioned to model proper AI use for their companies as more organizations adopt the technology in official capacities.

“We are not just tech users,” she said. “We are interpreters — storytellers. For many of us, we are the moral compasses of our organizations because we’re tasked with articulating the good, the bad, and the ugly of what our companies are doing. So who better to lead the responsible use of AI?”

Richards added that the communicators’ ability to push boundaries in storytelling is useful when exploring the new and ever-shifting capabilities of generative AI.

“The expertise you have built up in your domain over the years — and the subject matter experts at your organization have built up theirs — means that you know the rules,” she said. “And when you know the rules, you are the best people to break them.”
