Avoid these wastes of time on social media

If you’re finding yourself spending most of your day ineffectually using social media, you may be getting sucked in to some real time sinks.

Ask some executives (perhaps even your boss) what they think of social media, and they’ll tell you it’s a big waste of time. Over the past few years, research and anecdotal evidence have proven otherwise, but those executives are at least half right. A few activities on social media are time sinks.

At HubSpot’s blog, writer Pamela Vaughan has enumerated seven common ways social media users get sucked in to futility.

Among them:

Troll feeding. There are customers and readers who have valid complaints, and then there are the ones who go out of their way to disrupt, upset and cause arguments. They crave attention. Don’t give it to them. “It’s often better to ignore their remarks than try to reason with them,” Vaughan writes.
