Did an NAACP chapter president lie about her race?

Rachel Dolezal’s mother says her daughter, who is president of the NAACP Spokane chapter, has falsely portrayed herself as African-American for years.

According to Business Insider, Dolezal’s mother told a few Spokane media outlets that Dolezal has been portraying herself as an African-American for years, even though her family ancestry is Czech, Swedish and German, as well as traces of Native American heritage.

The City of Spokane is investigating whether Dolezal violated the city’s code of ethics by lying on her application to serve as a chairman for the citizen police ombudsman commission. As chairman, Dolezal participates in ride-alongs; she’s also an Africana Studies professor and an advisor for the Black Student Union at Eastern Washington University.

Dolezal has avoided answering questions about her racial background, walking away from an interview when a KXLY reporter confronted her about it.
