How many hits is enough?

You have research proving that 57 percent of employees are reading your online content on a regular basis; the real question is: Is that a good enough number?

The latest plea for some kind of benchmark on intranet readership comes from a long-time RR reader from Minnesota. “In my data-driven world, I am being asked to record the number of hits each story on my online (intranet) employee newsletter receives,’ she wrote last week. “Head- lines and brief leads on the home page link to the complete story, which is the only place the hits can be counted. But no one here agrees on or can substantiate what a —good,’ —average’ or —high’ number of hits is: 10 percent of our employees, 20 percent, 50 percent? Do you know? Does anyone know?’

We don’t know if anyone out there knows, but we know we don’t. Readers, if you have seen any statistics on this, or have seen any benchmarks, please let us know, at steve@crescenzocommunications.com.
