Last fall, the website Information is Beautiful compiled data about tweets and Twitter activity into this infographic, which reveals (among other things):
• Monday is the peak day for retweets; • Wednesday is No. 1 for self promotion; • Only 8 out of 100 tweets is retweet-worthy; • 5 out of 100 Twitter members create 75 percent of the content.
What can PR and marketing pros take away from the infographic? Fleishman-Hillard’s Spike Jones, who shared the graphic on his blog, had this to say about it:
“Twitter is a drop in the bucket of word-of-mouth. You don’t need a Twitter strategy first. You need a STRATEGY first. And maybe Twitter is an extension of that strategy. But never, ever the center.”
