Recently on Ragan.com, I have been critical of U.S. Olympic athletes for being too self focused. So it was refreshing over the weekend to hear an athlete and coach who “get it.”

After winning the NCAA Big East Championship over Georgetown, West Virginia’s Da’Sean Butler was asked what a title at Madison Square Garden would mean for a team whose starting lineup hails entirely from New York and New Jersey. He said: “We wanted to win this for our state (West Virginia) first, because the people there love us so much and they support us so much. We have a lot of people depending on us to do a lot, especially in our state. That was our main concern, not letting the state down.”
