News of Boston manhunt dominates Twitter

News and speculation about the search for the second suspect in the Boston marathon took over Twitter on Friday.

A shootout killed 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev; the second suspect, 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Tamerlan’s brother, remains the focus of a massive manhunt.

Meanwhile, Twitter exploded with discussion and speculation about what was happening. Nearly every trending topic Friday morning connected to the manhunt in one way or another, with terms including:

For its part, the official Boston Police account did not address speculative topics, such as the suspects’ purported link to Chechnya, nor the misidentifying of suspects in certain corners of the Web. The account stuck to warnings about potentially jarring police operations, media warnings, and updates about the suspect at large:
