Your next editorial assistant might just be a virtual one
Exploring how AI helps comms pros sharpen their writing.
At Ragan’s AI Horizons Conference last month, Rowan Toffoli, innovation and technology communications manager and generative AI lead at Lockheed Martin, said she understands communicators’ hesitation about adopting AI into their writing and content-creation workflows.
Toffoli suggested that communicators build custom GPT programs and use them as editorial assistants. By training them on the company’s tone and language, comms pros can speed up the drafting process.
“A well-made GPT is like having an extra colleague or an extra copywriter on your team,” she said. “It helps you stay on brand, be consistent and get a more accurate draft quickly.”
Toffoli also said that artificial intelligence can serve as an extra editorial layer for quality control of written pieces.
“You can partner with AI to analyze your content for readability, engagement potential and resonance,” she told the audience. “This pre-published quality check can really help you iterate before something goes out and make more informed decisions.”
