Alyssa Oshiro

Internal Communications Director - National Wildlife Federation

Alyssa Oshiro has served as internal communications director at the National Wildlife Federation since 2021. She leads, plans, and executes internal communications and change management programs; consults with executives on communication strategies; and contributes to employee engagement initiatives. One of her signature achievements is launching a new intranet which consistently exceeds benchmark adoption metrics such as read rates, click-throughs, and likes/comments.

Oshiro began a rewarding career in internal communications as an intern in public affairs at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. She supported the planning, communication, and roll out of a new talent management program while in human resources. She gained a knack for information management, business analysis, and intranet optimization during her time in the Banking Supervision Department. She also organized town halls, planned annual conferences, and developed signature employee engagement events. When she joined the Strategic Communications team, (nine years after her internship in the same department) she championed the shift to digital-first employee newsletter away from paper/pdfs. She socialized, redesigned, and implemented the new system just weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic, positioning internal communications to pivot effortlessly during uncertain and unprecedented times.

Oshiro earned her master's degree in strategic communications from Johns Hopkins University and her bachelor's of arts in english from La Salle University. She founded an internal communications consulting and coaching practice in 2024, called Firebrand Wordsmith. She lives in New Jersey with her husband and two sons. She has a love/hate relationship with internal email newsletters. And she never met a pun she didn't like.
