Andrea Swalec is an award-winning digital news editor for NBC Washington. As a breaking news writer, reporter and editor, she specializes in quickly identifying and telling stories that resonate with audiences across platforms. She collaborates across digital and broadcast teams to produce high-interest, high-engagement stories fast. She spots great stories and writes standout headlines, push alerts and newsletters. For the past year, she also has worked as a producer on the NBC Washington Investigations team.

Andrea Swalec is experienced in covering local, national and international news in the field and from multiplatform newsrooms. Swalec has reported from the European Union in Brussels, the Olympic village in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and the jail on New York City’s Rikers Island. Her work has been published by NBC sites nationally, Reuters, DNAinfo and WNYC Radio. She manages an internship program and enjoys spotting and cultivating talent.

Swalec began her journalism career as a New York City street reporter and loves getting to break a story and tell it from the ground up. She previously worked in international development and was a Fulbright fellow.
