Ngozi Magena

Director of Internal Communications - The Trevor Project

Ngozi Magena (she/her) is the director of internal communications at The Trevor Project, where she leads organization-wide internal communications, executive communications and organizational storytelling for the nation's leading suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ+ young people.

With a B.A. in Communication from San Diego State University and an M.S. in Communication for Development and Social Change from Temple University, Magena approaches internal communications as a community practice rooted in trust, belonging and collective meaning-making. Before joining The Trevor Project, she led internal communications at Akoben LLC, a consulting firm supporting K–12 schools, higher education institutions and nonprofits through restorative practices, trauma-informed care and culturally responsive leadership.

Since joining The Trevor Project in 2022, Magena has built the organization's internal communications function from the ground up, guiding employees through periods of organizational transformation, executive transition and high-profile public issues. Her work is grounded in the belief that internal communications is more than the distribution of information—it's the practice of helping people understand change, preserve trust and remain connected to purpose when it matters most.
