As a sports fan with a particular interest in football, I have worked for many years to avoid using sports analogies in my writing for fear it would become a nasty habit. That said, I’m always amused by how much and what kinds of sports analogies leaders use in their communications.

One of my favorite clients used to say, “That’s a makeable putt,” when he felt good about something. Of course there are the usual, “He hit that one out of the park!” and, “We’re getting back to blocking and tackling.”
