Strategic Communications Manager
We are looking for an experienced communications professional to be a part of our talented, inclusive, and collaborative Employee Communications team. The Strategic Communications Manager position will drive consistent employee communications strategy, planning and messaging internally across the organization. This role would work closely with leadership in performance and execution with a focus on market sector (business) storytelling and leadership brand.
In addition to strategic messaging and stakeholder engagement, this role will also support content development and editorial planning, coordinate creative assets, and leverage communications tools for maximum engagement. The candidate should be comfortable analyzing communications data and applying insights to improve engagement and effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively develop and execute communication strategies across sectors, regions, and functions that align employee engagement with enterprise and business priorities, supporting the company’s culture and values.
- Create and deliver internal communications content across multiple channels, including leadership messages, talking points, email updates, newsletters, intranet content, videos, and presentations.
- Ensure alignment between leadership messaging and enterprise communication timelines
- Translate complex, process and technology oriented initiatives into clear, compelling internal narratives while increasing visibility of leadership, project wins, and cross sector collaboration.
- Partner with all members of the Employee Communications team to proactively identify, create, and publish content, while also supporting editorial planning and long-term scheduling of communication initiatives.
- Monitor and measure the effectiveness of internal communications and make recommendations for improvement based on feedback and data analysis. This includes gathering engagement data, analyzing trends, and reporting insights to communications leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or public relations.
- Understand and be able to communicate strategy, processes, and concepts, making complex technical information understandable to diverse audiences.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills including strong editorial skills.
- Strong knowledge of communications strategy, tools, and channels.
- Proven ability to develop consistent messaging aligned to business strategy.
- Skilled at engaging in cross-functional teams and in working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proven experience in the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) industry or B2B space with a track record of designing and implementing successful communications strategies in these sectors.
- Experience working with executive leadership and demonstrated performance in a trusted advisory role.
- Proficiency in using tools such as the Adobe Creative Suite, Workshop, Divvy, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams and other collaboration platforms.
- Demonstrated experience managing and maintaining internal communication tools is a plus (internal email software, intranet, etc.)
- Video editing and visual storytelling capabilities.
- Proficiency in performance reporting methods and tools including data visualization such as Power BI, Tableau, etc.
Preferred work location: Overland Park, KS with consideration for candidates in locations where Black & Veatch has an office presence.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred, or equivalent experience
- 6+ years progressive experience, including 2+ years supervisory
