Britain’s Labour Party builds a rapid rebuttal unit of bloggers—the last bastion of truth, one McCain staffer would have you believe
Imagine a SWAT team of bloggers to help you suppress or kill damaging stories in the blogosphere. That is exactly what Britain’s Labour Party has planned: an online rapid rebuttal unit.
PRWeek’s UK edition reported last week that the Labour party hopes to challenge the growing influence of right-wing bloggers with its own team of navel gazers. Former defamed lobbyist Derek Draper is charged with recruiting sympathetic bloggers and advising on how the party communicates its message, PRWeek UK said.
In the late 1990s, Draper was deeply involved in a government lobbyist scandal dubbed “Lobbygate” or “Drapergate.” He denied the accusations. Today, Draper is a psychotherapist—and apparently a blog consultant.
While further details about this project remain scarce, British bloggers have weighed in. As anyone vaguely familiar with political punditry knows, many of the comments are, well, not nice.
