Staff writers at the popular blog Gawker are paid by the page view, which begs the question, “How much are writers paid, on average, at a widely read blog?”
Now we have an idea. In an e-mail allegedly sent to the site’s recently fired media reporter Maggie Shnayerson (published on a Radar magazine blog), Gawker chief Nick Denton outlines what is expected of his writers, or at least this writer—670,000 page views per month.
“You’re a good writer, and your stories are fine; you just seem to wrestle with them for longer than we can afford,” Denton reportedly wrote. “I don’t think you’re suited to the pace of Gawker.”
