Think you can’t learn from General Motors? Amid economic ruin, its blog is a trove of useful advice and harsh critique
Is General Motors too big to fail?
Readers of GM’s FastLane Blog think so. Many of them hope the government throws the automaker a financial lifeline after it threatened insolvency amid a $2.5 billion third-quarter loss. However, readers’ hopes came with strings attached as these (mostly) devoted GM fans left harsh and sobering comments on the blog.
“I am a Chevy dealer employee,” wrote a commenter named Noel GM FOREVER. “I have been at this for 22 years. I am deeply scared for my job now more than ever. I am also deeply disappointed that GM didn’t keep up with the imports.”
That was one of 85 comments to a Nov. 5 FastLane post that links to an independent study on the catastrophic effects of America’s auto industry failing. Although FastLane is billed as a forum for GM executives to share news about products and services, it often doubles as a communication vehicle when bad (or good) news breaks.
