The Pope sends first tweet, launches Vatican website

When your organization has spent 2,000 years developing a worldwide following, you might be tempted to stick with familiar messaging.

But Pope Benedict XVI tweeted for the first time to launch a new website Tuesday that aggregates the Holy See’s print and broadcast media in a single news portal.

Beside the headline “A Historic Tweet,” a Vatican photo showed the pontiff in his white cassock at a desk, tweeting the faithful from an iPad:
