Printing firm launches communication blitz to encourage employees to recruit good co-workers

Traditionally the bailiwick of HR folks, recruiting and retaining good employees is increasingly becoming an all-company crusade.

For their part, communicators are being asked to get the message to current workers: Help us find people like you.

At companies like VistaPrint, an online printer for small businesses and consumers, the results have been “staggering,” says Heather McCormick, a marketing specialist at the Lexington, Mass.-based firm.

After launching an internal communication campaign (tagged “Everyone here is a recruiter”) a year ago, the company has grown by 67 percent. Forty-two percent of new hires, McCormick says, have come from employee referrals.
