On Monday, coffee lovers worldwide will raise a cup o’ joe to those who help us wake up with the perfect roast.

The International Coffee Organization’s (ICO) celebrates its fourth-annual International Coffee Day on Oct. 1, with the goal of recognizing coffee growers around the globe and uniting the coffee-drinking world.

This year’s theme, “Women in Coffee,” hopes to help raise awareness about—and close—the gender gap in the industry.

From internationalcoffeeday.org:

… Women play as important a role in the whole of the coffee chain as men, from planting the seeds to processing to trading to brewing… and drinking it. Have you ever thought about how many women it took for you to be able to drink your daily cuppa?The idea for the 2018 campaign goes beyond paying homage to women! We want to highlight the need for equity and equality in the coffee sector, from bean to cup, and that can only be achieved by empowering women to the benefit of the whole coffee sector.
