Tips for bringing employee comms into the AI age

Technological advancements can assist with rather than replace human connection.

A major concern surrounding the rise of AI is the fear of it eliminating humanity. But when used correctly, AI technology can assist people in bringing people together and make them more efficient at doing so.

At Ragan’s AI Horizons Conference earlier this year, Michael Holste, senior product manager at Microsoft, told the audience a communicator’s role in an AI adoption process is key.

“Communicators are truly, truly, truly the tip of the spear,” Holste said. “They are the ones highlighting what is possible, setting expectations of usage and helping control employee nervousness or anxiety about the future of AI and jobs.”

He added that for a company and its culture to adopt an AI positive stance and put tools into use, communicators need to be equipped to create AI-centric messaging.

“We really see that communicators need to understand the tools,” he said. “They need to have the right measurements in place to help their organizations be successful — because whether you’re in the C-suite, IT or a communicator a lot of that ownership is being put on you to help realize those gains for your business.”
