Lay’s delivers marketing deliciousness with ‘Do Us a Flavor’ finalists

This year’s competition for a new chip flavor marks the company’s fourth year of the campaign-turned tradition.

A New York favorite, a southern staple and a Tex-Mex treat are soon coming to grocery store shelves near you.

Everything bagel, crispy taco and fried green tomato potato chips are the finalists for Lay’s latest “Do Us a Flavor” competition, where the potato-chip purveyor hands over creative control to its fans.

The consumer-created products will hit the shelves later this month. The company announced the finalist in a press release and on social media:

The marketing move has become an annual tradition since 2014. The contest coincides with a sweepstakes where winners can win prizes, including $1 million as a grand prize.

In the past, the contest has brought us such memorable flavors as wasabi ginger, biscuits and gravy, Reuben sandwich, cappuccino, gyros and truffle fries.

“After four contests, our fans continue to amaze us with their creativity and passion, which both clearly come through in this year’s flavors,” said Sarah Guzman, senior director of marketing, Frito-Lay. “Each of this year’s finalist flavors is a delicious expression of the dish and story that inspired it, and we’re looking forward to having America decide which one will come out on top.”

The contest runs through Oct. 8, and users can vote with Twitter and Instagram with the hashtags #SweepstakesEntry and either #VoteEverythingBagel, #VoteFriedGreenTomato or #VoteCrispyTaco.
