One thing to keep in mind when you’re making videos for internal communications is that it gets easier.
“You will get better with each one,” says internal communication specialist Mike Brice, “and if my experience is any indication, videos offer a low-cost, high-impact way to share your story with employees.”
You shouldn’t wait, though, to make sure your videos are absolutely flawless. Brice joined Steve Lubetkin, a video/audio expert and managing partner at Lubetkin Communicatons, and public relations and communication management specialist Judy Gombita to discuss video in internal communication. They offered Ragan.com their thoughts on some major mistakes communicators often make with their videos, and how they can avoid them:
1. Using room lights. A video isn’t worth much if you can’t see what’s happening.
“Even with a Kodak PlayTouch or Flip, you can get better images by investing in a small LED video light that will throw color-balanced light onto your subject at close range,” Lubetkin says. “Get a small flash bracket you can mount to the camera and attach the light to.”
