Using Foursquare, Ritz-Carlton takes its concierge service mobile

People who have never been to a Ritz-Carlton hotel can now get advice from the luxury hotel chain’s travel experts using Foursquare’s ‘tips’ function.

It just got harder to joke that a place you’re visiting isn’t exactly the Ritz.

Tuesday, Ritz-Carlton launched a program that brings its concierge service to Foursquare users—guests and the general public alike—using the app’s “tips” feature. And the concierge tips aren’t just available in the cities that house the chain’s 75 hotels.

“We don’t have a presence in London, and yet you will find a tip in London,” says Allison Sitch, senior corporate director of public relations. “That’s because our concierges know more than information about the city” where they are.

The tips have only been on Foursquare for a few days, but the concierges and the agency submitting the tips to Foursquare, Pandemic Labs, have been banking up tips for weeks. The tips themselves offer information about local attractions and nearby sights. Say, for example, you were visiting the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. Here’s what the concierge offers:

“After you take in St. Louis’ most iconic landmark, head north to Laclede’s Landing. A warehouse district in the 19th century, it’s now home to some of the best restaurants in the city.”
