Pop singers dominate Yahoo and Bing’s top searches of 2013
‘Twerk’ may have fallen short of being the word of the year, but the singer who popularized the dance, Miley Cyrus, inspired a whole lot of online inquiries.
Last year’s list of Yahoo’s top 10 search terms had the election at No. 1 and the Olympics at No. 7. This year, the news was less prevalent – Obamacare is No. 6—while female celebrities dominated the rankings.
Singer Miley Cyrus, reality TV star Kim Kardashian, and model Kate Upton were the top three on Yahoo’s list of the most-searched terms of 2013. Cyrus’ top spot on the list seems to prove that, while “twerk” wasn’t deemed the word of the year by Oxford Dictionaries, the singer’s dancing at the MTV Video Music Awards was certainly on people’s minds this year.
Here’s the full list:
1. Miley Cyrus
2. Kim Kardashian
3. Kate Upton
4. Minecraft
5. Selena Gomez
6. Obamacare
7. Amanda Bynes
8. Jodi Arias
9. iPhone 5
10. Justin Bieber
