Dave & Buster’s: ‘Please accept our apology’ for taco tweet

Last week wrapped up with an inadvertently racist tweet from the New England Patriots. This week, Dave & Buster’s, a restaurant chain that boasts sporting events on its TVs and video games, can’t say there was anything inadvertent about this tweet promoting its Taco Tuesday specials:
The Twitter rejection of the tweet was swift and blunt:
This. Is. Racist. RT: @DaveandBusters: “I hate tacos” said no Juan ever #TacoTuesday #DaveandBusters

@DaveandBusters @QueenOfShebaN Dave and Busters ‘come for the crappy food and games. Stay for the blatant racism!’
— Kloipy (@Kloipy) November 18, 2014
According to Adweek, Dave & Buster’s took down the tweet about 40 minutes after it was posted. About an hour later, the brand’s social media team offered this apology:
We sincerely apologize for the tweet that went out today our intention was never to offend anyone please accept our apology
— Dave & Buster’s (@DaveandBusters) November 18, 2014
The response to that tweet wasn’t entirely favorable either:
.@DaveandBusters Looks like you fired your copywriter along with your social media manager. Punctuation is overrated anyway!

@DaveandBusters As a fan of punctuation, I am further offended by this tweet.

It’s been a tough Twitter day for Dave & Buster’s.
