Allscripts’ fitness initiative goes the distance with social engagement

The health care organization used a variety of social tools and tactics to bring employees into the fold of wellness.

Allscripts Healthcare Solutions wins Ragan’s 2014 Employee Communications Award for Best Health/Fitness Program because the organization took more than just one step on the path to wellness. 

A worldwide blend of social engagement tools including team blogs, leadership boards, gamification, and infographics helped foster a great platform based on good ol’ competition. As we all know, any journey begins with the first step, and the Allscripts initiative truly went the distance. 

With buy-in from CEO Paul Black for discounted medical benefits and Fitbits, the campaign fostered camaraderie, the accomplishment of personal and team goals, and healthy lifestyles. It’s impressive how employees were encouraged to participate at their own comfort levels, a move that adds to inclusivity.

Additional traffic and interest in the company’s Wellness Portal, a new running club in Raleigh, N.C., and the 1 Million Steps Club prove the success of Allscripts’ efforts and the lasting impact the program will have. “Dance Dance Revolution” even played a role in the success of the Global Step Challenge!
