Communicators, stop whining and start demonstrating value

I recently read a post on MyRagan.com that was an “open letter” to executives and spoke on behalf of all communicators. I have to admit that I didn’t know what to think. There are parts of the letter I can relate to and many parts I can not.

First let me say that I understand how difficult our jobs sometimes are, but I’m getting tired of whining and complaining related to issues such as:

We are communicators—professionals who seem like the shoemaker’s children. Why can’t we, as communications professionals, promote who we are and the value we can add by taking some of our own advice and maybe the advice of some of those executives we complain about?
