Now, the pizza chain, which is widely known for its delivery, is looking to revamp another aspect of its delivery process: the cars. But instead of simply asking an automaker to design and build a new pizza delivery car, Domino’s has teamed with the community of car design enthusiasts at Local Motors to crowdsource the whole thing in the Ultimate Delivery Vehicle Project.
“This is not just some sort of PR or publicity stunt,” says Domino’s spokesman Chris Brandon. “This is something we hope comes to fruition with a prototype at the end of the design competition.”
That competition is in the early going right now, but the brand has seen a lot of enthusiasm from fans who want their pizzas to arrive at their doors as if it just came out of the oven.
Domino’s Chief Marketing Officer Russell Weiner came across the Local Motors team at a conference, where he heard them give a presentation. He saw some similarities between Local Motors and Domino’s, namely in that they look to fan communities to drive decisions.
