1. You don’t solicit feedback from end users. Not asking your employees what they want to see on your intranet is a great way to make sure no one uses it. Ask employees for their input before you set up your intranet. It’s meant to improve the work lives of your employees, so you must understand how they would use it to their greatest advantage.

2. You don’t use enterprise search. One common complaint is, “I can’t find anything on my intranet.” This is due to employees’ using enterprise search improperly—or not at all. Don’t assume your end users will intuitively know where everything is, especially when they must quickly find a document or form. 4. You ignore intranet design. You want to keep your intranet simple, but don’t completely ignore design. If your intranet is ugly, employees simply won’t use it. You don’t have to be—or use—a graphic designer to make your intranet visually appealing. 5. You don’t continually update your intranet.
