But they’re earning less and becoming more stressed. The solution? Bring back the 40-hour workweek.

Do you work more than 40 hours per week?

If so, you’re not alone. According to an infographic from OnlineMBA.com, three in four American workers clock more than 40 hours each week. But, the graphic argues this may not be such a good idea.

Here’s why:

1. Americans are working more, but making less.

In 1970, the average workweek was 35 hours, and the average income was $59,000. In 2012, the average workweek is 46 hours, but the average income is only $51,000 (adjusted for inflation).
